Size of Block:

8 inches square

Number of Blocks:

86

Size of Quilt:

Without Border – 64” x 96”, With Border – 72” x 104”
Number of Units: Block Quilt
A – White 1 96
B – Chartreuse 2 192
C – White 2 192
D – Medium Green 2 192
E – White 2 192
F – Dark Green 2 192
G – White 2 192

Pieced Block:

Follow Block Diagram below. First stitch two B units together to form arrowhead. Repeat with two D and two F units. Then form block by starting with A unit and combining units in alphabetical order as shown in diagram.

Setting Quilt:

Set blocks together as shown in quilt (left) making 12 strips, each 8 blocks across, and stitching these strips together as shown.

Border:

Cut material into 5” wide strips; piece together to form one long strip. Stitch around quilt, mitering corners.

Fabric requirements:

(All yardages are approximate and of 36” wide fabrics unless otherwise stated.)

6 1/8 yards of white for units A, C, E and G; 1 yard of Chartreuse for Unit B; 1 7/8 yards of Medium Green for Unit D; 2 1/2 yards of Dark Green for Unit F; 1 1/2 yards of Green for Border.

Note: Because units B, C, D, E, F, and G are repeated in reverse in the block, it will be best to double the material and cut two at a time.

Lining – Twin Size (72” x 108”) percale sheet; launder and cut to size.

Lining and Interlining:

Cut 1” smaller around that quilt-top. Place quilt-top, wrong side up, on smooth flat surface; interlining on top of it; lining (right side up, smooth out wrinkles) on top of interlining. Baste thru all 3.Turn Border seam allowance in, whip-stitch in place.

Quilting:

Using a fine running stitch and matching thread, quilt around each unit and the inside edge of the border, stitching thru all 3 layers. For a professional job, use a quilting frame or large hoops (22 inches in diameter).
