Susannah Quilt Block Pattern
Dating back to the 1800s, the Susannah quilt block is named after
the folk song of the same name. Facing numerous mountain valleys
and summits, plus stretches of a vast, uninhabitable plain, the
pioneers followed a torturous path in their quest to reach the
West.
The Susannah quilt block uses triangles and squares to capture that journey. The cross motif was also a prominent feature to uplift the spirit as they traveled the dangerous road to a new life.
This quilt is often pieced together with plain blocks to break up the pattern. The quilt top is then finished with borders to create the desired width and length.
