The Hatchet quilt block is a traditional quilt block and would be a perfect design for a boy’s bedroom, a den or anywhere that a strong pattern would spark a casual setting. It is a very easy, large pattern which makes it an excellent beginner's quilt - also gives adequate space for inventive quilting designs.

The pattern requires only two fabrics, plain or small pattern, but they must contrast strongly in color tone. This contrast is all important to the success of the design. The right angles of the two pattern pieces must be aligned with the horizontal and vertical grain of the fabric.

A large 99” x 132” quilt is composed of eighteen rows of twenty four blocks joined together. A total of 432 blocks would be needed to finish this quilt.

A border or binding would be a nice finishing edge to the quilt. Allow the yardage necessary if you elect to make this addition.

A = 432 pieces = 7 1/3 yards
B = 864 pieces = 5 1/3 yards
