Crown of Thorns Quilt Pattern
This pieced Crown of Thorns quilt has Biblical connotations and dates back to early colonial days. The original quilt was pieced in a color combination of green for the crown, light brown for the thorns and white for the fill-ins on the pieced blocks plus a border of strips of brown and green.
We have planned a border of strips of brown and green 1 1/2 inches wide finished. At each corner is a four-patch of brown and green 2 inch squares. Place the four-patch corners so that a green square joins the brown strip and the brown square joins the green strip.
Finished blocks are 10 inches square.
For a Crown of Thorns quilt 76 by 106 inches you will need 70 pieced blocks plus a border of brown and green strips each 1 1/2 inches wide (finished width). There are just 2 pattern pieces to this design.
Quilt along seam lines of each unit and quilt border in parallel diagonal lines.
